Flour, water, yeast and salt. The basic ingredients for any bread. This is a simple recipe to follow. Waiting is the only difficult part. So plan your work wisely to have your pizza served on time!
Tteokbokki also known as Korean rice cakes, together with a few basic ingredients are all you need. I made mine with leftover Chinese styled radish soup, some onions, carrots, luncheon meat, cheap skinless sausage, cheese that I have in my chiller and the spicy umami bomb - gochujang! You can go with canned stock or even water to cook this dish. Most leftover clear soups works fine.
A classic home dish. The gelatinous and more economical pork soft bones that are preferred by Chinese are used in this dish. Other parts of pork, preferably with bones or even chicken or duck can be used in place for this dish.
Sweet, savoury, fatty and sticky goodness.
Chinese have a saying: "Giving birth to a piece of Char Siew is better than giving birth to child." This just means how highly regarded Char Siew was in the Cantonese community.
"Ngo Hiang" or "Ngoh Hiong" refers to the same thing, literally 5 spices. It basically is a meat roll wrapped in beancurd sheet and deep-fried. One of the key seasoning is 5 spice powder, hence the name.
If you think fries is as easy as cutting some potatoes and deep fry it in some oil, you're in for a big disappointment in the results!
The bag of fries that you bought from the supermarket have already gone through a few process of pre-cooking before freezing it. All you have to do is to deep fry it, toss it with a little salt, and voila! French fries.
So I challenged my culinary students to do a cook off at home and share with me of what they had cooked. To make it a worthy challenge, I had to put in some effort and showcase my cooking to them too.
Pictures of some of my old creations are here.
Have a look at the gears that I used in my cooking and the creation of this blog.
